Sleuthing into history through metal detecting will be a highlight of programs next week at the Swart-Wilcox House Museum in Oneonta.

Chris and Kim Altmann will present "From the Ground Up: Adventure in Metal Detecting" during the museum's Summer Sunday Series event at 1 p.m. Their program will start at 1:15 p.m., organizers said.

The museum also will present Alex and Michelle Osterhoudt, who will present a demonstration of metal detecting Wednesday afternoon.

Metal-detecting sparks life into history, according to Chris Altmann of East Meredith. History seemed intangible to him as a child, he said, but finding buttons, buckles, jewelry and other items by scanning the ground provides connections to past cultures.
"It's a great way to learn," he said. "I love history now."
