Archaeologists make ‘curious’ finds in North Hampshire

A team of scientists from the University of Reading have spent the summer excavating a newly discovered Romano-Celtic temple on the site of the roman town of Silchester.

Professor Michael Fulford has spent most of his adult life examining the Roman town between Reading and Basingstoke, yet when 'the Breeze' recently asked him if he was still excited by this latest dig he was in no doubt.

"oh heavens yes, here we have a very distinctive monument that they (the Victorian archaeologists) didn't recognise in the 1890's and so it's a brand new, great discovery."
