A history enthusiast with metal detector has discovered site of English Civil War camp in Cornwall

The site of a former camp used by Parliamentarians in the English Civil War has been discovered in Cornwall by a history enthusiast from Penzance.

Shauney Strick, 40, has had a passion for history and researching the past of the town where he was born and bred for many years. While out with his detecting equipment recently he came across an object that immediately stood out to him.

After getting a 'sixth sense' he researched the piece of lead he dug out of a field on the outskirts of his hometown and discovered its true significance.

"I heard the detector going off, dug about 13 or 14 inches just on the range of it and all of a sudden I pulled up this piece of lead," he told Cornwall Live.
