Local archeologists will be digging at Scarborough Castle this weekend for the very first time.

Members of the Scarborough Archaeological and Historical Society will be investigating a spoil mound left over from an attempt to build sports facilities on the castle headland in the 1920's

Trevor Pearson from the group says the mound could be hiding artifacts from across the headland.

It's the first time the team from the Scarborough Archaeological and Historical Society have had the opportunity to dig on the site. The dig has been in the planning for several months in partnership with English Heritage. The results of their findings will presented in a report to English Heritage in a few months time.
