A metal detectorist has been reported for breaking lockdown restrictions by travelling to the beach at Filey.
The driver was caught by North Yorkshire Police officers in Malton and was returning home to Lancashire on Monday night.

The officers classed the journey as non-essential and the metal detectorist has been reported for breaching coronavirus laws.

So far, offenders have been fined for breaches such as flying drones, driving to view a second-hand car to buy, camping and drinking on the seafront in North Yorkshire.
Drivers have been intercepted travelling to beauty spots in the Yorkshire Dales from as far afield as Darlington, Liverpool and Oldham.

North Yorkshire Police have issued over 150 fines in April so far, the majority of them to men aged 18-35. There was a surge in offences over the Easter weekend.

The force said that in coastal areas such as Scarborough and Whitby, most of the lockdown-breakers were local residents, whereas in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, nearly all of those reprimanded were from outside of the area.
