What is a Tithe map?
These are maps (mostly) prepared following the Tithe Commutation Act of 1836 and are basically a parish map
showing every field, house and plot of land. This is normally accompanied by a schedule or script which gave
the names of all owners and occupiers of land in the parish. In addition it also gives the field names which I will
come onto later. It is also known for large land owners to have prepared maps for their own use to show what
land they owned.
