Fascinating archaeological finds in new book reveal life in Lincolnshire over centuries past



Since 2003, over 75,000 small archaeological discoveries made by the public in Lincolnshire have been reported to the Portable Antiquities Scheme. Adam Daubney, the county's Finds Liaison Officer, has picked his favourite 50 for a new book and chats to Dawn Hinsley about them...

Unsurprisingly, Adam Daubney, who is responsible for all the small antiquity finds reported in the county, says whittling down more than 75,000 to just 50 for a book was very difficult.




But the decisions came down to fascinating stories that would capture imaginations - an intricate abstract art brooch worn by a Roman woman, a gold ring from medieval England decorated with depictions of religious scenes, possibly worn to protect from sickness and evil, and a stunning gold pendant which dates to the 15th century. These are all able to tell us something about the lives of people who lived in Lincolnshire before us.
