Evidence of a Roman suburb has been found in Gloucester Bus Station where archaeological digs are taking place.

City archaeologists have found remains dating back from the 1500's and what appears to be a medieval cobbled floor or courtyard.

That supposed courtyard is thought to overlie a layer containing Roman pottery.

Archaeologists will spend the next week and a half on the site, and hopes are being raised that remains of the Whitefriars monastery of Gloucester could be found in the digs.
