Ancient burials found in proposed new car park

Ancient burials plus large amounts of roof and floor tiles from the 1224 Dominican friary have been unearthed in archaeological testing on the site of a proposed new car park between Magdalene Street and Rope Walk.

The development, by Rotax Property Ltd at Magdalene Street, rear of 58/59 Rope walk, has been given permission by Louth County Council with six conditions, including a panel to be erected to show the location of the principle features uncovered and explain their significance.
