A judge has ruled that ancient artefacts discovered by three different metal detecting enthusiasts in Co Down are treasure.

Among the hoard are medieval coins, Viking silver and a gold brooch.

The ring, an 18-carat gold treasure, dates from the 13th Century. It was found on a stock of barley in a field near Ardglass last year.

A silver arm ring that once adorned a Viking was discovered on the shoreline of Strangford Lough near Downpatrick.

Twelve silver coins found stacked together are thought to have been lost or buried near Ballyhornan beach.
