To the uninitiated it may be just a grassy bump, an unusual dip or a ridge in the landscape. But stop and take the time to observe, and you may be rewarded with archaeological riches.

More than 12,000 years of continuous human settlement of the British Isles have transformed our countryside, and with a keen eye anyone can start to unravel the secrets of its past. Arguably the keenest of eyes belongs to anthropologist and archaeologist Mary-Ann Ochota, who has taken me "landscape spotting" in Oxfordshire, an area bursting with evidence of our prehistoric ancestors.
