Essex fields home to lots of treasure including medieval brooches, inquest hears

A list of historic finds, including some dating to before the Norman invasion, has proved that Essex fields are some of the most lucrative for treasure seekers.

One of the most interesting pieces designated by Essex coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray as treasure last week was a silver penny of Edward the Confessor that had been adapted to be a brooch or badge, found in Roxwell.
